Rating Food
From now on I’ll be introducing a whole new segment on the blog dedicated to giving certain specific food items a complete rating. Meaning that I’ll rate the foods on a scale of 1-5 in four different categories with 1 being very bad 5 being very good. But I’ll get back to that later.
The idea is, as long as I maintain this blog, to continually search for the best food in different categories and accumulate an extensive database of rated foods both for my own benifit but also for you the reader. At the end of the year I’ll will do a top 5 or top 3 list of that year’s best and also a best of the best list that I will continue to update.
Rating system
I will be rating different foods on a scale of 1-5 in 4 different categories. The categories will differ depending on the food item.
For example a food item could be Cheeseburgers. The 4 categories would then be Meat, Bun, Filling (e.g. salad, tomato, lettuce, dressings, cheese etc.) and Presentation/Experience (meaning the way the burger is designed, the way it holds up when you bite into it, does it fall apart? is it cold?, does it look like it does on the picture, is there too much of something in it or is there not enough. Value for money is also something I’ll be judging in that last category.
Meat, Bun and Filling might be more important than Presentation/Experience because in the end the taste is what matters, but in order for a burger a masterpiece everything must be perfect.
Another example could be Ramen. Here the 4 categories are Broth, Noodles, Meat/Fillings and Presentation/Experience. I’ve for instance had a well tasting bowl of Ramen recently where the broth and noodles were great, the soup just wasn’t very hot. Also the Ramen was sort of pricey so not very good value for money. Meaning in total the experience in the end was not very good.
Sometimes I will get the food items as take-out and the Presentation/Experience category might suffer because of that, but I will take that into consideration when I rate the items.
Here a shortlist of other items I might including in my rating:
Pizza
Hot Dogs
Chicken Sandwiches
Shawarma and/or Falafel (w/pita) (very popular street/late night snack in Copenhagen)
Poke Bowls (like Ramen this is a fairly new and trendy thing and restaurants serving this sushi-in-a-bowl-ish dish are popping up everywhere)
Fish & Chips
Smørrebrød (Danish open-faced ryebread sandwiches)
Tacos
Cheesecake (or other kind of specific cake)
Ice Cream
This is not a complete list and I might make new additions along the way.
The idea is that the food items I rate are fairly common dishes that I might eat several times during a year and are also available if I should travel outside of Denmark.
I might set up specific rules for items like pizza and ice cream because both toppings and flavours will provide vastly different experiences.
It is possible to score from 4 – 20 (a score of 0 is not possible). 4 being the absolute worst and 20 being the best of the best – a masterpiece.
Here are a list of what the final score means:
4-6 Absolute Trash
6-9 Forgettable
10-12 Ok
13-15 Great
16-18 Epic
19 Superb in almost every way
20 Best of the best – a masterpiece
There is a bonus category – a winking smiley 😉 – that can be added to a food item. But only if the item scores 12 or below. The smiley indicates that this item might be good when drunk and therefore it should be considered only eating that particular food item when wasted.
In the end remember that the ratings are my own personal preference and that your taste might be completely different to mine. Just use my database as guideline and feel free to comment if you agree/disagree with my scores. Suggestions to where I should go and eat and what items I should try are also more than welcome.
