Rating Cheese Burgers – Burger King’s Bacon Cheese Whopper
Bacon Cheese Whopper (11/20)
Burger King – Rødovre, Copenhagen, Denmark
The king has left the building
There’s no getting around the fact that Burger King and fast food arch rivals McDonald’s are the dominant force in the world of fast food burger chains. McD might have the upperhand on BK in terms of number of locations but BK is well known throughout the world and their flagship burger The Whopper is almost as iconic as Mcd’s Big Mac. But while the Bic Mac has it’s own place in the burger pantheon because of it’s fairly unique taste and look, the Whopper is more a standard burger even though BK try to push their own sence of trademark with their flame-grilled patties.
But hey, this is not a Burger King vs. McDonald’s. This is my review of the almighty Whopper.
(if you’re not sure how the rating works, and what the idea behind it is ..)
The Cheese Burger Rating Scale (overall 4 – 20)
Meat (1 – 5)
Bun (1 – 5)
Fillings (1 – 5) (e.g. veggies, cheese, sauces, etc.)
Presentation/Experience (1-5) (e.g. structure, burger integrity, freshness, service level, pricepoint, overall burger experience etc.)
Burger King Bacon Cheese Whopper:
Meat (2) – Even though this is your typical frozen fast food patty it’s still a decent meat patty. Now I know that signature smoky flamegrilled taste most likely comes from a spice blend or something mixed into the meat at the BK factory (it exists, right?), rather than the actual grilling of the patty, but it’s what BK is known for and what in essence makes a Whopper a Whopper.
The Bacon in the Whopper was pretty meh. It was cooked, thankfully, but not at all crispy and it was quite soft. I almost wanted to give it a score of 1 but it might have been a restaurant specific thing and not a general BK thing.
Bun (3) – The classic sesame bun is what we think of when we think of BK burgers. There’s unfortunately nothing special about it. It’s actually kind of boring. But it does fit the burger very well, so I’m bumping it up to a 3.
Fillings (3) – BK doesn’t have a special sauce like the Bic Mac sauce or something similar. BK uses mayo which is the classic way to do a cheeseburger. Again it fits the burger well with the lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. It is though very heavy on the onions and is a dominant flavour in the burger. The cheese is that processed american cheese that I for some reason hold very dear to my heart and probably puts a strain on my heart as well. But I really like it and it’s perfect for the burger.
Presentation/Experience (3) – Unlike the handheld joy of a McDonald’s cheeseburger or even a BK cheeseburger a Whopper is a horrible/wonderful mess of a burger. The Whopper will fall apart on you and mine did too. It was all over the place. But isn’t that the charm with a BK Whopper? Maybe a shower installment at your local BK would be a good idea?
😉 – The winking smiley indicates that this burger is fantastic as drunk-food and of course the Whopper is great after a night of drinking. Just remember a fistfull or two of napkins. You’ll need them!
Overall: 11 out of 20 (rating score: Ok)
+ There’s harmony in the flavour and the flamegrilled taste gives it it it’s BK uniqueness.
+ Solid ingredients, good cheese
– The bacon was honestly not really good (will probably skip it in the future i it’s a general thing.)
– The burger is really messy
Would I buy again?
Absolutely – but most likely without the bacon
Would I go to Burger King again?
Yes!
