Danish FoodFood in Copenhagen

Copenhagen: Food Metropolis

My goal for 2018 is to really introduce Copenhagen – my hometown – here on the blog. It’s a city in which I for many years didn’t find all that interesting – food wise. It was my backyard – and often you take that for granted, and that’s what I did. I was looking at cities like New York, Barcelona and London for food inspiration, thinking that they were among the benchmark cities, and that Copenhagen would never get close. Boy, was I wrong. Call it growing up – but I came to my sences and realized that Copenhagen is beautiful, one of the best cities on earth – for a number of reasons, and a city I’m proud to call my home. Copenhagen no longer has to play second fiddle to no other city. We are on the forefront of the New Nordic food movement, spearheaded by Claus Meyer, Rene Redzepi and the fame of restaurant Noma. People flock to Copenhagen for a taste of what we have to offer, and frankly within the last few years, Copenhagen has become a prime world food destination.

This year I’m going to dive head first into the amazing culinary landscape in Denmark’s capital, and sample as much as I can. From traditional danish offerings, to the more modern, and to all the top quality international cuisine, this great city now also has in abundance. Sure, ramen first became trendy in New York – before it hit Copenhagen (and every other major city too.) But now ramen – and top quality ramen – is available all over the city. And that’s just an example, there are many other stories like that.

So get ready for an action-packed 2018 with visits to many exciting places, most of them off the normal tourist trail. So if you plan on visiting our great city, or live here – but know nothing about the food scene, well this blog is your port of call.

Look for the category Food in Copenhagen, to find all my coming food posts about Copenhagen. And also the following food themes/sub-categories:

Copenhagen Dining – Will be about sit-down restaurants – from fine dining to classic cassual.

Copenhagen Food Crawl – Will be about me going on a food quest to try and eat as much exiting food as I can in one day. Usually I’ll try to base my trips around a theme, for example a Taco Crawl (post coming real soon), or my quest to find Copenhagens best burger (might be more than one day), and much more.

Copenhagen World Food – Will be about all the wonderful food you can find here from all over the world. A lot of it will be about food you’ve never even heard of, and did not know you could find in Copenhagen.

I’ll also be heading to the kitchen to cook up recipes, as I usually do – but this time I’ll try to do classic danish dishes – but with an international twist, so that no matter where you live; South Africa, the UK or the United States, you’ll be able to find the ingredients to make these dishes.

Be sure to check out my YouTube channel: Danevore (This years theme will too be about Copenhagen, and danish food.)
